Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:12)

Christian life is a battle until the day we die. Keep this verse in mind as you wake up each day and face the world. We must all resist the enemy and fight against dark spiritual forces with the strength only God can give us.

God gives His believers (people who follow Him) the armor to thrive and to fight the enemy in this life. I can't stress this enough, kids. If you don't read the Bible and pray daily to do God's bidding, you won’t be able to fight the enemy effectively.

Apollyon blasted fire upon Christian, but Christian held up his shield and fought valiantly.

Helmet of Salvation

The Helmet of Salvation is there to protect your head and your mind. When you focus on Jesus and constantly look to Him, your mind won’t get muddied with other thoughts and things.

Think about:

  1. Salvation sets you free and keeps you from spending an eternity in Hell. It is deliverance from life as a sinner. When you repent of your sins, you become a disciple of Jesus Christ, so when you die, you’ll join Jesus in Heaven instead of going to Hell (John 3:36, 2 Thessalonians 1:9).
  2. After being saved (repenting), you need to start walking in Jesus, which requires you to stop sinning and try to live a blameless life in the eyes of God. The problem is, since you’re still on Earth, you’ll still sin, so you’ll have to ask God to forgive you. Now, can you see why what’s in your head (your mind) is a big deal? You have to wear the helmet of salvation to keep your mind focused on the mission of living for God and expanding His kingdom here on earth (Colossians 2:6-7).

Talk about:

  • And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)
  • He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak. (Isaiah 59:17)
  • But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:8)

Breastplate of Righteousness (Chest Protector)

Believers wear the Breastplate of Righteousness after they’ve repented of their sins.

Think about:

  1. What is “righteousness”? It's a big word that means you’re doing something right. Only believers of Jesus Christ, those children who have repented of their sins, are righteous in the eyes of God (Philippians 3:9).
  2. Once you’re born again and saved from Hell, nobody can take your righteousness—not even Satan. Jesus has made this promise (John 10:28).
  3. Being righteous is doing the right things. You’ll know you’re doing the right things when you do what the Bible commands you to do (James 2:24).

Talk about:

  • Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness. (Ephesians 6:14)
  • The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:12)
  • By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, (2 Corinthians 6:7)

"I will walk in the strength of the Lord God."

Belt of Truth

When you wear the Belt of Truth, you’ll see things differently than people who are not disciples of Jesus Christ. With your biblical knowledge, you become free from how you used to think.

Now, you know sin is real, Hell is real, the Bible is real, and Jesus our Lord and Savior is real. These truths cannot be denied. ANYONE who says otherwise is a liar. How do you know this? Because the Bible, not men, makes it clear what truth is. Remember, according to the Bible, all men are liars.

Think about:

  1. We are all sinners. If anyone says or believes differently, they’re wrong. No matter what other people think or say, we know the truth (1 John 1:8).
  2. The entirety of the Bible is truth; nothing in the Bible is wrong or contradictory (Psalm 119:160).
  3. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Only when you believe in Jesus and repent of your sins can you come to the Lord and go to Heaven (John 14:16).

Talk about:

  • Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
  • Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness. (Ephesians 6:14)
  • And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

Sword of the Spirit

The Sword of the Spirit is the word of God. It's not a real sword, of course; it's the Bible, and the truth is found within it. The Bible acts as a sword because it cuts through all the lies and corruption found in this world. Isn't that awesome?

The knowledge from the Bible acts as a sword; it cuts through all the untruths and sins in this world. When you’re unsure about something, you can always refer to the Bible and see what it says. God knows what's best for you and me.

Think about:

  1. Life is a battle—not just any battle, a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:10-18).
  2. We need weapons in this battle. The Lord has given us the Bible as our primary weapon to fight the enemy (Ephesians 6:17).
  3. For example, Satan (which means “adversary”) is a liar and deceiver. He lies to people constantly. We need Bible teachings to cut through his lies, so we won't believe them and will instead choose to obey God (1 Peter 5:8-9).
  4. We must submit to God (James 4:7).
  5. To submit to God you must read the Bible and spend a lot of time in it. The Bible is equipped to help you handle all the situations in which you might find yourself (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Talk about:

  • And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; (Ephesians 6:17)
  • For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
  • For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
  • He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. (Revelation 1:16)

Shield of Faith

When the really bad days hit and everything is going wrong, lift that Shield of Faith and take protection behind it. There is no better protection than the faith we have in Jesus.

Think about:

  1. Satan, the adversary and enemy of God, shoots fiery arrows at us, trying to wound us and stop us from worshipping God. The arrows he shoots are lies, corruption, deception, doubt, misery, and anything that weakens our faith and resolve (Ephesians 6:16).
  2. The shield you carry with you on the spiritual battlefield is made up of your faith. If you have only a little faith, you become an easier target for Satan and enemy forces to wound you with lies. Make sure you have plenty of faith and read your Bible (Matthew 8:26).
  3. Find a church where the pastor preaches the gospel straight from the Bible. Why? Because faith also comes from listening to pastors who preach directly from the Bible. So, when you go to church, LISTEN. Don't daydream or think about other things (Romans 10:17).

Talk about:

  • Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. (Ephesians 6:16)
  • For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. (Psalm 84:11)
  • The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. (2 Samuel 22:3)
